This guide to Sarasota, covers a lot of ground. Not only in terms of the content that's here, but in the geographical area that's covered.

From the south, including Englewood and Venice, to Sarasota and her bearrier islands of Siesta, Lido, and Longboat Keys, to the Bradenton and Palmetto area and out to Anna Maria Island that is comprised of the three beach citeis: Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach and Anna Maria.

Other sections of this site list most of the places you can stay - many are not listed on most travel sites as they are too small to be part of the commission-based distribution systems of Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz and the like. That doesn't mean they are to be ignored. Many are a real cut above the standard faire, and offer home-like amenities such as fully equipped kitchens - and might even be three steps to the beach and Gulf of Mexico.
