Professional golfers love it here, and new learners also come here for several different reasons. If you like a challenging game of golf amidst tranquil and natural surroundings, you are likely to join in the league of all those who simply adore Lake Venice Golf Club.
Does the idea of enjoying some challenging rounds of golf while feeling pleasant Gulf air sounds too good to be true? Well, the honest truth is that Lake Venice Golf Club offers this experience throughout the year to anyone and everyone looking for some fun outing. The best part about this golf course, as you might have guessed by now, is its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. There could be nothing better than swinging some shots surrounded by the picturesque views of the Gulf.
This is a 27-holes facility open to the public all year-round. Built in the year 1957, Lake Venice Golf Club is presently managed by Rod Parry. The fairway is made of Bermuda grass allowing a good lie for the ball and the putting area is all Tifdwarf. The layout of this course is perfect for professional golfers as well as amateurs. It is highly likely that you will spot wildlife while swinging some shots here. Along with plenty of Florida sunshine and tropical trees, you can experience ospreys, eagles, and possibly a gator in the water hazard area.
If the idea of alligator makes you a bit uncomfortable, what do you think this man would have gone through? In June 2007, a man lost his ball in a golf course pond here at Lake Venice. Perhaps he did not notice the sign of caution about alligators and went in to look for his ball. That's when an 11-foot alligator got hold of him; fortunately, the man who almost lost his limb was rescued to avoid any further misfortune.
It's true that wildlife is pleasing to many people but from a fair distance. So take the word of caution, pay attention to the signage on the golf courses and you will do just fine.
Coming back to other golfing wonders of Lake Venice, the layout is set up with three 9-hole courses that can be played together in three different 18-hole combinations. It is an ideal setting for anyone looking towards a quick game of 9 holes or anyone planning to try out a combination of courses for full 18 holes. The most popular course combination at Lake Venice is First/Second. This is also the longest course at 6,636 yards with a slope rating of 119.
If you are looking for the highest challenge possible, choose a combination that includes second course. Second course is known to have the trickiest finishing holes and the most water hazards. Third course is the shortest one among the three. You can play any combination and the price stays the same for whichever combination you choose. All courses have the par of 72.
You do not have to reserve tee times with Lake Venice Golf Club, and to add to that, you can walk or ride anytime here and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. Golf lessons are available here. You will probably run into golf pro David Knott when looking for some gaming instructions and advices. Some other amenities at this golf club are driving range, club rentals and snack bar on site. Lake Venice is home to several annual golf tournaments as well.
There is no housing on the golf course. Popular in the area for its reasonable rates and quality service, this golf club is place where you can spend some quality time alone or with the entire family. Florida residents get extra discount on the already affordable prices.
