Selby Gallery

Selby Gallery at Ringling College of Art and Design is Sarasota's premier venue for displaying contemporary art. The Gallery is an on-campus site for exhibitions and functions as a learning center and a place for extracurricular activities. The Gallery sits on the Ringling College campus, about a half-block east of 2700 N. Tamiami Trail on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way.

Apart from its role as a space for visual art, Selby Gallery is also a venue for community programs. The Gallery also hosts the renowned Ringling College faculty and students in the annual faculty show and the Best of Ringling annual Ringling College juried student exposition.

Sarasota is a popular spot for artists and there aren't enough galleries to exhibit contemporary art. Perhaps this is because there aren't too many galleries that are interested in breaking the boundaries of convention. The Crossley Gallery, also on the Ringling College campus, is also a place to exhibit student artwork.

The Selby Gallery also exhibits artists recognized around the world, as part of Ringling College's instructional program, since 1986. The Gallery aids the mission of the Ringling School of Art and Design. This includes providing a thorough professional education in the visual arts. Hence, the inclusion of work and perspectives of world-renowned artists to the curriculum via various exhibitions and programs is part of Selby's role.

The Gallery is open from 10 am - 4 pm, on Monday - Saturday and is open from 10 am - 7 pm on Tuesday. Admission is free. All Selby Gallery lectures and exhibitions, along with most special events are open to the public and is free. In the summer (May - August), that schedule is 10 am - 4 pm. Selby Gallery is closed on major holidays and on designated holiday hours.
