The Myakka River State Park is one of Florida's oldest and most important natural area in the Floirda Southwest. Developed in 1934 as a Civilian Conservation Corps project, it remains mostly intact.
The Myakka River flows through the parks 58 square miles and represents a buffer region between prairies, pines and hammocks, and wetlands.
Numerous recreational facilities include canoeing, horseback riding, boating, fishing, camping and hiking.
