Legend has it that the first inhabitants of this magnificent island were native Americans - the Timucan, and Caloosa tribes. In the 1920s, John Ringling bought a sizeable acreage on the southern part of the island. He constructed a golf course there and planted pine trees alongside the Gulf of Mexico Drive. Later, the Arvida company took the initiative to develop the island. Although there are numerous accommodations to boast in Longboat Key, there are only a few that have the AAA Four Diamond rating. The history of the resort goes back 40 years, when Longboat Key Club first began as a country club with 18 holes of golf. And in 1982, the Resort at Longboat Key Club was constructed as part of a plan to build private residences, condos, country club and a resort. Guests at the resort have access to the private beach and can enjoy the country club atmosphere. On the site, there are 45 holes of championship golf, 38 tennis courts including 6 for night play, heated pool with Jacuzzi, a fitness center that includes massage therapies, rafts, sail boats, bicycles, boogies boards, and a beach lounger. Daily delivery of the newspaper along with coffee is also part of the service at the resort hotel.

With 4 restaurants and a dining room, owned by the resort, you will find all kinds of foods and delicacies to suit your palate. The Sands Pointe restaurant's specialty is seafood and its wine list was recently highlighted by Wine Spectator magazine.

The 232 rooms and suites at this luxury resort are separated into guest rooms, club suites, single and double bedroom suites, as well as deluxe two bedroom suites. Each room comes with a balcony that offers a view of the lagoon, beach or the golf course. The suites come with fully equipped kitchens, refrigerators, and icemakers. The facilities also offer cable TV and movies on demand, hair dryers, bathrobes, iron and ironing boards, coffee makers, and mini bars. Housekeeping service is available twice a day.

The resort also offers special packages like the Island Romance or Stay and Play family package. For kids from ages 5-12, there is a Kids Klub that is available throughout the year, Monday through Saturday.
